Private networks may change their external IP addresses constantly, which have to be inserted into the Domain Name System (DNS), otherwise the networks can't connect to the Internet properly. Thanks to dynamic DNS services, administrators don't have to make any DNS updates when changing an IP address, because it is done automatically by the aforementioned services. This is the functionality that DynDNS Service has to offer. It works as a Windows service, which monitors the status of your public IP address and of your Internet connection and updates it to the Dynamic DNS provider. What's more, the application is capable of updating several networks simultaneously, at different Dynamic DNS providers.

A fully functional trial version of DynDNS Service is available. You can enjoy its features without any limitations, until the trial expires. Installing the application is a straightforward operation, which takes only a few seconds to complete. DynDNS Service provides support for Windows XP and later editions, up to Windows Server 2012. Besides a constant Internet connection, you will also need .NET Framework 3.5 or a later version.

DynDNS Service works quietly in the background and you can bring up its general settings panel, through a system tray icon. The menu contains a wide range of useful controls, which are neatly categorized on separate tabs. You can use them to detect your public IP, update one or more Dynamic DNS providers, make a series of notification settings, insert scripts and more.

The public IP can be detected through various online IP lookup services, which can be selected in a drop menu. You may look up your IP manually, just by clicking a button or you can let the application detect it automatically every few minutes. If you are using a proxy server, you can type in its address and your login credentials on the same tab. As previously suggested, DynDNS Service will automatically update one or more Dynamic DNS providers if you change your IP address.

The Dynamic DNS providers can be defined on a separate window. This requires filling in a series of input fields with a few details, like the provider's name, the domain name which has to be updated, your username and password and so on. Defined providers are displayed in a list. You can let DynDNS Service update them automatically, but you can also update individual providers manually.

The application can also notify you if it fails to detect your IP address, after a certain number of attempts. Additionally, you can set it to notify you for each failed attempt and for each successful or failed update. The notifications are sent by email from a SMTP server and to an address of your choice.

Pros

The application is capable of updating Dynamic DNS providers automatically when a public IP address is changed. Also, it can update multiple providers, for multiple networks.

Cons

Novice users may not understand DynDNS Service's functionality. Regardless of how often your network changes its external IP address, DynDNS Service will keep the Dynamic DNS providers updated at all times for you.
